RECRUIT OFFICER BENEFITS

While in the academy you will be eligible for health insurance and holiday pay. You will be issued Department uniforms, equipment and firearm. The Academy is also certified for "Veteran's Assistance Education Benefits."

Step A is the entry-level salary after graduating from the Training Academy. Officer Step B increase is received one year after graduation from the academy. Each subsequent year after graduation you will receive an additional step raise until top pay for the range has been reached, step O. This pay plan is the base rate and does not reflect cost of living increases, overtime, longevity pay, education pay, or shift differential.

POLICE OFFICER BENEFITS

  • 12 days of Paid Vacation per year.

  • Sick Leave earned at the rate of ½ day per month for the first five years, then one day per month, with no maximum accumulation.

  • Maternity Leave.

  • Injury Leave (work related).

  • Emergency Leave.

  • Military Leave.

  • Education Pay in the amount of $110.00 per month for a bachelors degree or $135.00 per month for a masters degree from an accredited college or university.

  • Shift Differential of $.75 per hour in addition to your officer base pay, if you work 2nd, 3rd, or 4th shifts.

  • Paid Overtime for hours worked in excess of 40 during a workweek at the rate of one and one half times the regular rate of pay or an employee shall be allowed to accrue and carry over up to 40 hours of compensatory time. Use of compensatory time shall be subject to management approval, advance notice, and staffing requirements, but shall not be unreasonably denied.

  • Bi-Lingual Pay. An additional $10 per hour [paid in fifteen-minute increments] in addition to your base pay.

  • Field Training Pay of $.80 per hour.

  • Specialty Duty Pay of $60.00 per pay period.

  • Longevity Pay.

  • All employees will be given the option of taking an annual fitness test. This test is the same as the physical agility test required for employment. Those individuals who take and pass the test will receive a $100.00 bonus for each year in which they pass the test.

  • Uniforms and Equipment are furnished.

  • Clothing Allowance of $600.00 per year for 2008, and $650.00 per year starting 2009.

  • Health Insurance.

  • Group Life Insurance.

  • Disability Income Insurance.

  • Accidental Death & Dismemberment Insurance.

  • Credit Union Membership.

  • Police Benefit Fund Association.

  • Deferred Compensation Program.

  • Paid Retirement after 20 years service if at least age 50 at 50% of pay; maximum benefit equals 75% of pay after 30 years.
