Wichita Transit will mark an important moment in history when it celebrates its 40th anniversary in October, 2007.
The commemoration begins October 16 with a Wichita City Council proclamation. Transit employees who represent second and third generations of service will be recognized by Mayor Carl Brewer and City Council members.
The following week, October 22 thru 26, a variety of special events are planned, leading up to a 40¢ ride promotion on Friday.
Among the week's highlights:
Monday, October 22 ~ A KICK-OFF CELEBRATORY RADIO BROADCAST from 93.9, including "Hitman" Greg Williams, Mayor Brewer, and Councilwoman LaVonta Williams. Also on Monday will be our inaugural activity, RANDOM ACTS OF KINDNESS. Randomly-chosen passengers will receive a Wichita Eagle newspaper and a goodie bag filled with items, including a complimentary single-ride pass and a note of thanks for using our service.
Tuesday, October 23 ~ GIFT WITH PURCHASE ~ Throughout the day, customers who purchase bus passes at the downtown Transit Center information booth will receive a complimentary gift. During the morning rush, customers can also enjoy a complimentary Krispy Kreme donut. It's our way of saying "Thank you" for your business.
Wednesday, October 24 ~ BLUE BELL ICE CREAM SOCIAL at the downtown Transit Center. During the 3:15 PM and 3:45 PM line-ups, customers can enjoy a cup of Blue Bell ice cream and try TRANSIT TRIVIA to win a prize.
Thursday, October 25 ~ CELEBRITY RIDERS will board Wichita Transit buses during the afternoon drive time, including a live remote broadcast. Be the first to guess the celebrity rider and receive a complimentary 20-ride bus pass.
Friday, October 26 ~ 40¢ FRIDAY ~ Cash fares are 40¢ throughout the day.
