Recently, some major events molded Wichita Transit's direction and identity, namely:
TOC Facility
In 1999, Wichita Transit staff moved into a new administration, operations, and maintenance facility at 777 E. Waterman. The Transit Operations Center (TOC) provides offices and meeting rooms for Wichita Transit Administration staff, operation dispatch centers for both fixed route bus and paratransit van services, as well as vehicle maintenance and storage facilities.
The TOC is able to house most WT vehicles, particularly diesel-fueled buses. In the past, these vehicles had to be run during the middle of the night in freezing weather, so the fuel would not gel and cause starting problems and engine damage. The facility also contains six maintenance work bays, a body/paint shop, and fuels both diesel buses/trolleys, gasoline vans and support vehicles.
Administrative activities include handling the budgetary processes, payroll, purchasing, personnel, and finance.
